Lawrence "Ray" Cameron's Obituary
Lawrence “Ray” Cameron, 70, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in a local hospital leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work. He born on July 23, 1954, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ray was the beloved son of Phillip Jr. and Hattie Mae Cameron. He grew up in a close-knit family, one of four children, and shared deep bonds with his siblings—Phillip Cameron III, Phyllis Moore, and Ronald Cameron. Ray attended Riverside and Kirkman High School, where he built lifelong friendships. Ray found his true calling as a truck driver, embracing the open road with pride and passion. He built a reputation as a dependable and skilled driver, working for many years at Siskins Steel & Supply Company and later continuing his father’s legacy by working with Cameron and Son Construction Company. Ray eventually became a respected supervisor at the Chattanooga Housing Authority, where his tireless work ethic, dedication, and reliability left a lasting impact on everyone with whom he worked. Known for his infectious humor, hearty laugh, and kind spirit, Ray brightened the lives of those around him. He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, particularly fishing and savoring seafood with friends and family. Whether casting a line on a quiet day or sharing a seafood feast, these moments brought him immense joy. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Cameron Jr. and Hattie Mae Cameron; his brothers, Phillip Cameron III and Ronald Cameron; and his granddaughter, Makayla Renner. He is survived by his devoted children, daughter, LaTonia (Kenneth) Ware and sons, Stacey Cameron and Ivan Cameron; his cherished grandchildren, Kenneth and Kaliya Ware, Natalia Beck, Jadon, Brock, and Autumn Cameron; his great-grandson, Jamarion Payne Cameron; and his loving sister, Phyllis Moore; aunt, Alberta Cameron Jones and Betty Cameron; as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. Ray will lie-in-state on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 12 noon in South View Cemetery in LaGrange, Georgia.
