Kya Nickole West's Obituary
Kya Nickole West, 31, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, compassion, and unwavering service to others. Born on December 25, 1993, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She grew into a woman defined by strength, empathy, and a deep desire to protect and uplift those around her. She was baptized at a young age, beginning her life with a foundation of faith that remained with her throughout her journey. She was a graduate of Ooltewah High School. Kya went on to dedicate her life to serving her community as a firefighter with the Forest Park Fire Department. Kya committed herself to helping others in their most vulnerable moments. Her courage on the job was matched only by the tenderness she showed in her personal life. Even while carrying her own struggles, she continued to offer comfort, understanding, and unwavering support to anyone who needed it. Kya was known not only for her compassion but also for her adventurous spirit. From a young age, she chased thrill and excitement with a fearless joy that never faded. She loved to swim long before she actually knew how and would leap into the deep end with full confidence. She rode her bike straight through flood waters, jumped off 13-foot diving boards without hesitation, and swam so far out that life guards regularly had to jump in after her. That same fearless energy carried into adulthood, showing up in every challenge she faced and every life she touched. Her friends, colleagues, and family will remember her for her generous heart, quick sense of humor, boundless empathy, and the way she made people feel genuinely seen. Kya was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Everlina Turner and Cassie Wise. She is survived by her mother, Angela Turner; father, Jermaine West; siblings, Cordarrius Cochran, Asia (Stef) Jordan, and Khalen Malone; grandfather, Randy Orr; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, firefighting family, and countless friends who will forever carry her memory. Though her time here was far too short, her impact remains in the lives she touched, the people she helped, the adventures she embraced, and the love she shared. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12 noon at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church.
