Joseph A. Blackmon Sr.'s Obituary
Joseph A. Blackmon, Sr., 69, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at his residence. He was a graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant Franklin and Leler Ruth Blackmon; brothers, Bernard Blackmon and David Lee Blackmon; sister, Wanda Faye Blackmon; nephew, James B. Blackmon, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Michael Gilford and David Kennard. Survivors include his wife, Diana L. Blackmon; sons, Joseph A. Blackmon, Jr. and Kelvin Readus, Sr., both of Chattanooga; daughters, Jakita Blackmon of Chattanooga and Jamica Bradford of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, LaFrederick Collier, Jr., Sha’Torria Bailey, Sha’Ryiah Bailey, Kelvin Readus, Jr., Willie Owens, Sha’Ni Bailey, Katilya Readus, and Tayla Anderson; mother-in-law, Mary Kennard; brother, Bryant Blackmon, Jr. of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Sharon Kennard of Chattanooga; aunt, Bernice Sanders of Chattanooga; several nieces; nephews; devoted cousin, Samuel Blackmon; a host of other family and friends. Joseph will lie-in-state on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Brother Phillip Henderson as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
