John Watkins' Obituary
John Watkins, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, with his family at his bedside.
Born on January 18, 1942, in Mobile, Alabama, John worked as an analyst for the Tennessee Valley Authority, providing 28 years of service. He was known for his strong work ethic, tireless dedication, and attention to detail. John served as a private in the United States Army, where he was stationed in South Korea and at the Pentagon, before graduating with a Bachelor's in Mathematics from Knoxville College. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, repairing cars, working in the yard, gardening, carpentry, and electronics projects.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia; son, Eric (Detrius) Watkins of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Monica (Marcus) Woods of Hendersonville, TN and Kimberly (Maurice) Angel of Moseley, VA; grandchildren, Nicholas Wesley, Johnathan Woods, Araina Woods, Maurice Angel, Jr., Kahmara Angel, and Alanah Angel; beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
We want to say a special thank you to Jennifer and Krysta in the Critical Care Unit of CHI Memorial for making John's transition comfortable and dignified. They demonstrated the highest level of compassion and concern for our family that only the best of the best could show. We are forever grateful to have had you both share in this moment.
John will lie-in-state on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside service will be on Monday, June 22, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
