John Nelson Green's Obituary
John Nelson Green “Nookie”, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023, at his residence. He was born February 23, 1954, to Freddie Williams and Janie Mae Green. John graduated from Howard High School class of 1973. He retired from ADM after many years of service. John was baptized into Christ, March 30, 1997, at the Alton Park Church of Christ. John loved to grill and watch basketball. One of his joys was taking care of his pit “Big Boi”. John was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Thomas Green, Willie Brown, and James Green. Survivors include his daughter, Faith Green; sons, Michael Sherrod, Nelson Green, and Johnathan Green, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tariq Jackson, Jashaad Green, Aniyah Green, Janadiya Green, Jamarrion Stover, Gabriel, Cornelius, Janeicia, and Mikkel Green; sisters, Mary Phinazee Green and Jacqueline (Phillip) Henderson both of Chattanooga; brothers, Jersey (Martha) Green of Aurora, IL, George (Hattie) Green, Kenneth Phinazee, and Eric (Robbie) Phinazee, all of Chattanooga; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. John will lie-in-state on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Highland Memorial Gardens.
