Jimmie Williams' Obituary
Jimmie Williams, 77, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026. He was born to the late Jessie and Ida Slaughter on February 2, 1949. He was educated in Chattanooga, Tennessee and was a proud graduate of Howard High School, Class of 1967.
After graduation Jimmie enlisted in the United States Army and served proudly from August 22, 1968, to August 21, 1974. During this time, he served in Vietnam from February 13, 1969, to February 12, 1970, where he received the National Defense Service Medal, 2 O/E Bars, an Army Commendation Medal, a Marksman (Rifle N-14) Vietnam Service Medal w/2 bronze Stars and a Vietnam Campaign Medal w/1960 Device.
After serving his country, Jimmie returned to Chattanooga and began his career with the United States Postal Service, as a postal processer. He worked there faithfully for 50 years until his retirement in 2020.
Jimmie was a loving father to his two daughters and was known for his quiet presence. He loved watching all type of sports, especially football and basketball. He was an avid San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Mavericks fan. Jimmie was also a perfectionist when it came to his yard, where you could always find him working. Whether it was mowing his grass, planting flowers or working on his yard décor, his love for being outside was evident. He was also known for how well organized he was, nothing in his home would be out of place.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Harvey Williams and Virginia Slaughter.
He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Sei-Ondra (Derrick, Sr.) Owens and Tamiya Williams, all of Chattanooga, TN; two grandchildren, Derrick Owens, Jr. of Atlanta GA and Kayla (Marlon) Hampton of Chattanooga, TN: three great-grandchildren, Timothy Shropshire III, Mason Hampton, and Myla Hampton all of Chattanooga, TN; four sisters, Mary Young, Doris Hewlett, Alfredia Brown, and Thelma Slaughter, all of Chattanooga, TN; one brother, Tommy (Karen) Slaughter of Virginia Beach, VA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
Jimmie will lie-in-state on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel with Bishop Ternae Jordan, Sr. as Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
