Jerry Louis Woods' Obituary
Jerry Louis Woods, 66, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, October 21, 2024, in a local hospital. He was born February 14, 1958, to Claude Louis Woods, Jr. and Mary Anna Woods. He was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Jerry loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age in the Church of Christ at E. Third Street. He was educated in Chattanooga at Howard High School, Class of 1976. Jerry played the drums in the Howard High Tigers Marching 100 Band. Jerry was a United States Army veteran. He had a sparkling fun personality. He loved to make you laugh. He had a passion for cooking, especially outdoors grilling. Jerry was a friend to many. He was preceded in death by his baby girl, Amoree’ Woods; father, Claude Woods, Jr.; and son, Jerry Louis Abernathy. Jerry leaves to cherish his memories his loving mother, Mary A. Woods, of Chattanooga; son, Carey Woods, of Albuquerque NM, ; two daughters, Avihanna Woods and Chyla Woods, both of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Lamont Woods and Eva Woods, both of Albuquerque, and Jalah Aneicia Abernathy, Jerry Louis Abernathy, Jr., and Jerrial LeAnn Abernathy, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Linda Woods and Cynthia Simmons, both of Chattanooga; other Woods siblings, Veronica Graham, Sayno Bell, Jackie Whitfield-Tulloch, Bernard Woods, Sabastain Woods, and Saccato Woods; nieces, Cyntoria Simmons and Desiree’ Battle; nephew, JaMichael Battle; special cousin, Todd Woods, all of Chattanooga; a host of other nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; long time, dear friend, April McCoy, of Chattanooga; church members, friends and classmates. Jerry will lie-in-state on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
