Jerome Golson's Obituary
Jerome Golson, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023. He was born to the parents of Jessie Lee Golson, Sr. and Ophelia Broadnax Golson on August 28, 1956. He attended Howard and City High School. Jerome accepted Christ and joined Emmanuel Baptist Church as a child under the leadership of Reverend W.H. Thompson. He wrote his own life story by the things he did during his life. Jerome loved to play basketball and watch it on television with family and friends. He worked with his uncle on construction sites and learned many skills while doing so. Jerome loved to grill and cook for family and friends. He taught his nieces and nephews life lessons and gave out scolding for everyone from time to time. He worked at World Sales for many years, where he met and made new friends every day. He volunteered to help feed the homeless in the community by working with a local church. Jerome mentored the younger youth at the local community center. As a youth himself, he was a part of the Howard Junior High basketball championship team, which he helped lead. Jerome was all ways at the center of wanting to be the boss, large and in charge. He made sure his sister Gina made it to church and work. Jerome was able to count his money better than the bank and was a better debater than a lawyer. The life we live will tell its own story and Jerome loved his family and friends and his story will always be in our memories. He is preceded in death by his father, Jessie Lee Golson, Sr.; mother, Ophelia Broadnax Golson; brother, Jessie Lee Golson, Jr. Survivors include brothers, Willie (Ernestine) Golson of Stone Mountain, GA, Edward (Glennis) Golson, Reginald (Annette) Golson both of Chattanooga; sisters, Regina Golson of Chattanooga, Semeria Golson Clemons of Snellville, GA; aunts, Velma Broadnax of Autaugaville, AL, Bessie Boradnax of Chattanooga, Velma Coleman of Fuquay-Varina, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Jerome will lie-in-state on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Dr. Jessie Broadnax as the eulogist. Burial in Tyner Cemetery.
