Janet Shannon's Obituary
Janet “Nikki” Shannon was called to her eternal home on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at a local hospital. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Robert and Janice Shannon and was raised in the Westside College Hill Courts. Nikki was the only girl and had three brothers, Melvin, Jeffery, and Robert Shannon. She was the mother of three children, LaShaundra N. King, LaShay D. King, and Gary D. King, Jr. She is the grandmother of five grandchildren, Christiuna Vines, Natalia Griffin, Arckee King, Gary King, III, and Davion C. Dixon. Nikki was very athletic. She attended James A. Henry Elementary and played on the girls’ basketball team. She attended City High School, class of 1985, where she played on the girls’ championship basketball team. Nikki also played volleyball. She was a 2 year tennis champion and a badminton champion. Nikki was invited by the NBA’s Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings basketball teams to be in the halftime “Hot Shot Tournament”, where she placed 2nd out of 2,500 girls in the U.S. Nikki was a devoted member of the Institute of Divine Metaphysical Research Chattanooga branch, where she served as treasurer for 4 years. Nikki was a loving, caring, and giving person. As an entrepreneur, Nikki started her fragrance business, where she loved making people smell good. Nikki was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Austin and Marie Parks; great-grandparents, Ike and Betty Lowery; uncles, Austin and David Parks; niece, Indigo; nephew, Jeffery Shannon, Jr. Loving and wonderful memories will forever be cherished by her son; daughters; grandchildren; great-aunt, Betty Bishop; father, Arthur E. Chandler; uncle, Todd (ReJeana) Lowery; cousins, Karen (Randall) Smith and Mark Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Nikki will lie-in-state on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 10 – 4 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 4:00 p.m. with Dr. Michael Watts as the eulogist.
