Janet Sales' Obituary
Janet Lee Sales, 63, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023, in a local hospital. She was born May 8, 1959, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Vera Mae Sales. Janet graduated from Riverside High School Class of 1977. She was a devoted alumna of the Blue and Gold. Janet joined Gospel Light House Presbyterian Church at the age of 12 under the leadership of Reverend H.A. Sheeler. She will be remembered for her kind heart, bluntness, and hospitality. She loved everybody and everybody loved “Moma Janet”. Janet raised her only daughter plus many more with the help of the Lord. She was always in the kitchen. Anytime you came to “Moma Janet’s” house she was always going to give you an uncut conversation with a beautiful meal to follow. Janet was very involved in the community council meetings in the early 1990’s as well as the school system. She wanted to make a difference not only in her home, but outside of home. Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Mae Sales; brothers, Warren Sales and Floyd Sales; sisters, Doretha Sales and Debbie Sales; and grandmother, Mattie Sales. Survivors include her only daughter, Jasmine (Robert) Clark of Chattanooga; her life partner, Zachary Scruggs of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Alex Stone and Riyah Clark, both of Chattanooga; great-aunt, Lina Pearl Sales; sisters-in-love, Terry Sales of Chattanooga, Lizzy Scruggs of Philadelphia, PA, Annette Moore of Tallassee, AL, Sabrina Scruggs, and Jacquelyn Myree; brothers-in-love, Clarence Myree and Leonard Myree; special to her heart nieces and nephews, Laquandra Mcleod, Martresa Scruggs, Jevonta’ Scruggs, Charles Scruggs, and Kentrell Usher; cousins, Maria (Zet) Pitner of New York, Valerie Pitner of Chattanooga, Robbie Pitner of New York, Joann Stevenson, Nelson Tyrone Stevenson, Anthony Sales, Alfredia Fairnot of New York, Keisha Sales, Stephanie Penson, Rashard Stevenson, and Preston “Bernard” Bonner; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Janet will lie-in-state on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Ronald Tucker will serve as the eulogist.
