James Otis Warner, Sr.'s Obituary
James Otis Warner, Sr., 84, of Chattanooga, departed this earthly life on Friday June 13, 2025, in a local healthcare facility. He was born to the late John Henry Warner and Elsie Wiggins Bridgeforth on September 17, 1940, in Decatur, Alabama. James was one of eight children, Johnnie Perrow of Jacksonville, FL, Bobby Woodruff of Chattanooga, TN, Gene (Karen) Bridgeforth of Evans, GA, Hubert (Easther) Bridgeforth, Betty Delee, both of New Bedford, MS, and Ann Marie Porter of Decatur, AL.
After James graduated from Lakeside High School in Decatur, AL, he joined the U.S. Army and later joined the Navy. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Chattanooga where he met his wife, Aljanette Price of Anniston, Alabama. James retired from Mueller Company after 40 years of service.
James was a member of Stephen Temple C.P. Church on East Third Street, Pastor, Earnest Jefferson. He was an Elder, former church and Sunday School treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. He was also President of the Male Chorus, Senior Choir Member, former Outreach Ministry President, Transportation (Bus) Ministry, Member of the Faithful Worker’s Club and former President, and Trustee of the church. James was a 33rd degree Mason of Taylor Lodge #3 and a Shriner member. He was active in his community as the Block Leader for Orchard Knob Neighborhood Watch Association of the 2100 block of Oak Street. He was also the Chaplain Prayer Warrior for the Neighborhood Watch.
James was preceded in death by his daughters, Sylvia Warner Chubb, Janice Burleson, and Ora Price Daniels; his son, Steven R. Allen; sister, Mattie L. Monterro; and grandson, Romel Hightower of Toledo, OH.
He leaves to mourn his death, his wife of 60 years, Aljanette Warner; children, James Otis Warner, Jr., Linda (Early) McCullum, Sr., both of Chattanooga, and Henry L. (Aretha) Burleson of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Swanson; two brothers-in-law, Wallace (Anna Faye) Carver and John (Charlaine) Price, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jerry (Ashley) Strickland, Christy Chubb (Quinton) Jones and Doris Chubb, Marsha (Larry) Penn and Marvin Davis, all of Chattanooga, Heather Hightower of Phoenix, AR, Michael Burleson of Toledo, OH, Steven Allen of Decatur, AL, Floyd Armstrong, of Detroit, MI, Jordan and Monique (Alex) Warner of Hampton, VA, James O. (Chelsia) Warner, III of Buford, GA, Dezmund Warner of Newport News, VA, Henry L. Burleson, Jr., and Martell Burleson of Dayton, OH, Brenin, Jordan, Quinton and Kendall Burleson of Houston, TX, Larry Sturdivant, Sr., Early McCullum, Jr., and Mattie McCullum all of Chattanooga; Thanks to Mr. Otis Rump, Sr., a loyal and devoted friend; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends.
James will lie-in-state on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 12:30–5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Monday at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Pastor Earnest Jefferson as the Eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
