James Morriston McClain's Obituary
James Morriston McClain, 74, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at his residence. He was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools and attended Riverside High School. James was a veteran of the United States Army and received an honorable discharge at the end of his service time. He was employed by Railroad and Southern Champion Tray and retired after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Zelma E. McClain; and daughter, Tyese Dillard. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gwendolyn “Cookie” McClain; sons, James Fleming and Maurice Thompson; daughter, Tonya Fleming; brothers, Bobby G. McClain, John McClain, Melvin McClain, and George McClain; sisters, Marilyn Massengile, Regina Shropshire, Christina Shropshire, and Carolis Shropshire-Harris, all of Chattanooga; a host of grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. DUE TO THE WEATHER, THE SERVICE HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 13, 2025, at 9 a.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
