James Mack Hunter's Obituary
James Mack Hunter, a resident of East Brainerd, was called into his eternal rest October 17, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1931, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Albert and Louise Smith Hunter.
He was educated in the Chattanooga School System and graduated from Howard High School. After graduation, he was called to military duty and served during the Korean War. After four years of active service in the Army, he returned to Chattanooga and began working at The Read House.
While in Chattanooga, he met and married Louise Booker Hunter and moved to California where he remained for 45 years. While in California, he worked For Silicon Services in Orange County for 25 years before his retirement. James joined Phillips Temple CME as a child and remained a member there until he united with Grant Methodist Church in Los Angeles, California. Upon his return to Chattanooga, he reunited with Phillips Temple. James enjoyed watching western movies and was a Tennessee Vols football fan. James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorothy McCaulley and Aleane Hunter, brothers-in-law, Comer McCaulley and William Middlebrooks. He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 67 years, Louise Booker Hunter; son, James Lebron Hunter; grandsons, James Hunter and Keith Hunter; granddaughter, Renee Hunter; one great-granddaughter, all of Athens, GA.; sister, Claudia Middlebrooks of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA; sisters-in-law, Annie B. Johnson, Lucille (Henry) Moore, both of Chattanooga, TN, and Mary Butler of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Robert Booker of Chattanooga; special niece, Vanessa Lowery; nieces, Veronica Hunter, Rosina Bell and Felicia McCaulley; nephews, El Dorado McCaulley and Felix Hunter and a host of other family members and friends. James will lie-in-state on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Robert Henry as the eulogist.
