Sergeant James Anthony Blanton's Obituary
Sergeant James Anthony “Tony” Blanton, 55, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in a Georgia hospital. Tony was the devoted husband of D’Andrea L. Blanton and born March 21, 1967, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Edward Blanton, Jr. and the late Chinester Blanton. Tony attended Kirkman Technical High School, graduating class of 1985. He then graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Bryan College Class of 2012. He served in the United States Air Force for six years and honorably discharged in 1991. Tony was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Police and retired from the Chattanooga Police Department after 25 years of faithful service. He was loved by all who encountered him. He never met a stranger and knew how to place a smile on anyone’s face. He had a talent for making any situation laughable. He loved to fish, travel, and spend quality time with his children. Tony was a jack of all trades. He was very resourceful; Google and YouTube were his best friends. The thing that brought him the most joy was spending his days and nights with his “Sweetie”. Tony was preceded in death by his mother; maternal grandparents, Napolian and Mary Clopton; paternal grandparents, Edward Blanton, Sr. and Mrs. Willie Blanton. Survivors include his loving wife, D’Andrea Blanton of six years; children, Victorious Blanton (affectionately known as “Gorgeous” by her daddy) of Nashville, TN, Jadon Blanton (lovingly known as “Big Man” by his daddy) of Murfreesboro, TN, Angelica Jenkins, and Sean Jenkins, Jr., both of Douglasville, GA; father, Edward Blanton, Jr. of Chattanooga; sisters, Jacqueline (Chris) Graham and Monita (Eric) Cox, both of Chattanooga; brother, Victor (Sheila) Blanton of Marietta, GA; father and mother-in-law, Deacon James and Cherie Ruffin of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Dawn (Ronald) Richardson of Marietta, GA; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Bishop Kevin L. Adams, Sr. will be giving words of comfort.
