James O. Ansley's Obituary
James O. Ansley, 79, of Chattanooga, transitioned from this world at his residence on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 7:31 a.m. at the age of 79 years old. He was born May 7, 1945, in Equality, Coosa County, Alabama and was the 3rd born of four siblings. James was a beacon of love, strength, and stability throughout his life, always prioritizing his love of God and his family above all else.
James married the love of his life, Lena Meadows, on June 4, 1966. They built a beautiful life filled with commitment, joy, and unconditional love. As a father, James was unwavering in his love and dedication to his two daughters, Duchess and Cheryl. He remained a constant source of guidance, support and encouragement. James was a hardworking provider, always giving of himself to ensure their well-being and he always made time for what mattered most-his beloved family. James had four grandchildren who filled his heart with immense joy and two sons-in-law, Toby Walker and Tracy Calloway who he loved dearly. His daughters will carry forward the values he instilled in them—hard work, strength and dedication.
James was not only a devoted family man, but also a respected friend, neighbor, and co-worker. He was a member of New United Baptist Church, with Pastor Jeffrey Wilson. He spent over 37 years working at the Electric Power Board and retired at the age of 59 as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
Among those who preceded James in death include his parents, Shirley and Alberta Riley Ansley; his siblings, Wallace Ansley and Lonzie “Blood” Ansley.
James Those who knew James will remember him for his warm smile, joyful spirit, and his willingness to always help others. His larger than life personality fostered genuine friendships that spanned decades. James is survived by his loving wife, Lena; their children, Duchess (Tracy) Calloway and Cheryl (Toby) Walker; his grandchildren, Jalen and Jamall Calloway, Lennex and Lamiah Walker; his sibling, Christine Youngblood; beloved cousin/brother, Andy “Jug” Henderson; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and dear friends who were touched by his kindness.
James will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of love, strength, hard work, and dedication will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. James will lie-in-state on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 10-11:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 12 noon in Forest Hills Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Wilson giving words of comfort.
