Ira Joyce Johnson's Obituary
Ira Joyce Johnson, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2023, in a local hospital. She was a graduate of Howard High School and received her Associate degree from Cleveland State Community College. Ira was a member of Greater Tucker Baptist Church. She retired from Erlanger Medical Center as a Registered Nurse. She later was employed by Moccasin Bend Mental Institute for several years. Ira was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Johnson; and son, Dejuan Woods. Survivors include her sons, Darrell Frazier and Dargin (Tamara) Johnson, both of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tiara Frazier (Deven) Gafford of California, Kirstin Johnson, Nigil Johnson, Alexa Grace Johnson, Xavier JE Johnson, and Gianna Johnson, all of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Somayah Johnson, Indyah Johnson, and Ahmir Hunter, all of Chattanooga; a host of cousins; other relatives and friends. Ira will lie-in-state Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, July 7, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at Greater Tucker Baptist Church. Burial on Monday, July 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
