Howard Palmer's Obituary
Howard Palmer, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, December 30, 2024, in a local healthcare facility. He was born on August 28, 1934, to Grady and Ella Louise Palmer. He was the 3rd of 6 children born to his parents. He was raised in the Fort Cheatam community in Chattanooga. In 1951, Howard enlisted in the US Air Force and served his country in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1961 after 10 years of service. He married the love of his life, Betty Wilkerson Palmer, and they were married for 59 years. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, brothers, Ernest Palmer and George Palmer, sisters, Bertha Smith, Louise Davis, and Julia Palmer. He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 59 years, Betty Palmer; son, Howard Timothy Palmer of Nashville, TN; daughters, Cheryl (Edwin) Paris of Chattanooga, TN and Desonya Washington Sims of Atlanta, GA; brother-in-law, Richard (Mary) Wiggins of Bridgeport, AL; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Palmer; three grandchildren, Ronald Talley of Nashville, TN, Danielle Sims of Atlanta, GA, and Corey Palmer of Chattanooga, TN. His survivors also include 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Howard will lie-in-state on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Calvin Smith as the Eulogist. Burial on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
