Horace Edward Boykin's Obituary
Horace Edward Boykin, 75, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in a local hospital. He attended Bay Spring High School in Bay Spring, Mississippi. Horace was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Chattanooga Tent Company after 22 years of service. He then was employed by Erlanger Medical Center for 13 years. Horace was preceded in death by his father, George Washington Boykin; brothers, W.G. Boykin and Eddie Payton; mother, Patti M. Barfield Boykin; and cousin, Judge Payton. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth A. Boykin; son, Frederick L. Parker, II of Anniston, AL: daughter, Melissa R. Parker of Jacksonville, AL; 3 step-grandchildren; sisters, Clara Scroggins of Atlanta, GA and Mary B. Plunkett of Roanoke, VA; friend/brother, Robert Sturnes of Chattanooga; sisters-in-law, Barbara Shackleford of Lafollette, TN, Patricia (Percy) Shackleford of Chattanooga, and Terry Smith of Los Angeles, CA; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Lois) Smith of Los Angeles and Charles Patton; nieces, Crystal Boykin, Lakechia Helton, and Samantha B. Turner; nephews, Cameron Scroggins, Charles Boykin, IV, Chrishawn Boykin, Maurice Boykin, Jason Boykin, Curtis Boykin, Tru Watson, and Crew Boykin; great-niece, ShaKiaya Helton; sister/cousin, Shirley Keyhea of Laurel, MS; a host of cousins; other relatives and friends. Horace will lie-in-state on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel with Minister KaDarius Scott as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
