Hilton Johnson's Obituary
Hilton Johnson, 73, born in Atlanta, Georgia, passed on January 11, 2024, in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Hilton, a 1969 Howard High School graduate, was reared in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He loved to cook, a talent he readily demonstrated and excelled from a young age at home and in Chattanooga restaurants. In 1971, Hilton enlisted in the Army, where he proudly served much of his time in Germany and Fort Liberty, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina. His exemplary cooking skills and commitment to duty earned him the Army Meritorious Medal, Commendation Medal along with several ribbons and a multitude of letters of recognition. He also earned the National Defense Medal. In 1991 after twenty years of Army service, Hilton retired at the rank of non-Commissioned Officer (Sergeant First Class E7) and immediately secured civilian employment, ultimately serving with Boddie-Noell Enterprises Inc. for over thirty-year. He remained in his beloved Fayetteville, where God called him home. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Mae McKibbens-Redmond Johnson; father, John Lenard Johnson; brothers, Jimmy Lee Redmond and Calvin Johnson; brother-in-law, Danny Ray Gordon. He leaves to cherish his memory, his brothers, Otis Redmond Jr., Sylvester Redmond (Minnie) of Georgia, Bobby Johnson (Betty) and Kenneth Johnson of Chattanooga; sisters, Shirley J. Gordon of Chattanooga, Joann Kelly Moore of North Carolina, Regina Byrd of Maryland, and Robin Byrd of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Mamie Redmond; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He will lie-in-state on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will follow from 4-5 p.m. Homegoing service will be Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. Burial in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
