Hillard Whitlock White's Obituary
Hillard Whitlock White, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at his residence. He was born June 7, 1940, to the late Clifford White and Lila Shoulders White in Leighton, Alabama. He moved to Chattanooga at the age of 9 years old where he attended 2nd District School. As a youth, Hillard enjoyed playing basketball and baseball before falling in love with singing. As a teen, he began singing in the church choir at Faith Temple Baptist Church before joining the quartet group The Profiteers. After the dissolvement of the Profiteers, he and his brother, Willie, founded The Spiritual Crusaders. Over the years, Hillard maintained this gospel group until he became ill. He retired from Mizpah Congregation after 27 years of service. Hillard was preceded in death by his father, Clifford White; mother, Lila Shoulders White; sisters, Hattie McKinley, Ida Qualls, Bessie White, and Elizabeth Shevin; brothers, Clifford White, Jr., and Rev. Willie B. White; and son, Jeffery Rowe. Survivors include his wife, Margaret N. White; children, Bernard Rowe, Karen (Carlos) Thompson, Corey (Falicia) Bauldwin, Hillard White, and Garrick (Ja’Inda) White; grandchildren, Haleigh and Caiden Bauldwin, Marquea and Chauncey Thompson, and Jada Stalmaker; great-grandchild, Londyn Holline; family friend, Katy Bauldwin; sisters, Ethel Mae Ricks and Amelia Vinson; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Hillard will lie-in-state on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Otis Babbs as the eulogist. Burial on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 12:00 noon in Highland Memorial Gardens.
