Herman Griggs' Obituary
Herman Griggs was born on February 20, 1946, to Albert and Jessie Mae Griggs in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A lifelong resident of the area, Herman attended Riverside High School. He was a dedicated and hard worker, eventually retiring from the maintenance department at Covenant College.
Herman’s greatest passion was his faith in God and his love for his family. He was known for his thoughtful nature, often sending scriptures to family and friends to offer daily encouragement. His vibrant personality was reflected in his hobbies; he was an enthusiast of classic cars, a practitioner of martial arts, and found great peace while fishing. His commitment to Christ led him to serve at Inner City Ministries, where he worked in various capacities to uplift his community.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jessie Griggs; his brothers, Edward, Edgar, Willie, Henry Lee, and Robert Lewis Griggs; and his beloved daughters, Francis and Sabrina Griggs.
On April 17, 2026, Herman passed away peacefully in Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Odessa Flanigan; his sons, Derrick, Daryl, Damon, David, and Jonathan Griggs; his daughter, Joya Buck; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Herman will lie-in-state on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Chris Turner as the Eulogist. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
