Haskell S. Darby, Sr.'s Obituary
Haskell Sherman Darby, Sr., 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2022, in the Hospice Care Center. He was a graduate of McKenzie College and a proud United States Navy Veteran. Haskell was married to Hattie Darby for 70 years. Haskell was a long-time member of Hurst United Methodist Church. He retired from Moccasin Bend Mental Health Institute where he worked as a Boiler Room Operator for many years. He loved gardening every summer and working on home improvement projects. After his retirement he enjoyed watching old westerns and looking after his grandchildren and later great grandchildren. Haskell was a significant community advocate for the Hill City Neighborhood and served as a member of the Hill City Neighborhood Association in various positions. He served alongside his wife, Hattie, as Precinct Chairperson or as Vice Precinct Chairperson for many years. Among those who preceded Haskell Sr. in death include his parents, William and Alice Darby; wife, Hattie Darby; brothers, Abner Darby, David Darby, and Alvin Darby; sisters Billie Ann Bush and Josephine Marsh; and great-grandson, Sebastian Stigger. Cherishing his memories include his sons, Orlando (Sharon) Darby Sr., Haskell Darby Jr., Patrick (Lori) Darby, and Keith Darby Sr., all of Chattanooga; daughters, Jennifer Pasley and Margaret Crutcher, all of Chattanooga; grandsons, Orlando Darby Jr., Kedrick Darby, Keith Darby, Jr., Brandon Darby, Caleb Darby, Chris Robbs, and Anthony Mills, Jr.; granddaughters, Shannon Pasley, Shanara Stigger, Anai RaSoul, Lynetta Darby, Jennifer Darby, Takema Darby, and Sophia Darby; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Darby of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Pastor Sandra Johnson will serve as the eulogist. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Hospice Care Center of Chattanooga.
