Gregory Stewart Owens, Sr.'s Obituary
Gregory Stewart Owens, Sr., 59, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, in Cartagena, Colombia. He was a 1982 graduate of Tyner High School and attended Chattanooga State Community College. Gregory was a member of Miracle Missionary Baptist Church and attended Good Friends Church. He retired from UPS after many years of service. Gregory was preceded in death by his father, James L. Owens, Sr.; mother, Louise T. Owens, both of Chattanooga; grandparents, Henry and Mattie Thomas of Chattanooga and Joe and Pat Owens of Alabama. Survivors include his sons, Korey (Ebony) Owens and Gregory (Janeshia) Owens, Jr., both of Chattanooga; daughter, Takia Owens of Knoxville, TN; 7 grandchildren; brothers, James L. (Louise) Owens, Jr., Derrick (Sei-Ondra) Owens, Sr., and Tony Owens, Sr.; sisters, Pastor Sandra Faye (James) Wilkes and Deborah Sue Wortham, all of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with Pastor Sandra Faye Wilkes as the eulogist. In lieu of flowers, please donate gift cards and unwrapped toys in memory of Gregory’s Christmas tradition of giving to children in need. Donations may be brought to Mt. Canaan Baptist Church during the repast after his service. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
