Gregory Heard Matthews' Obituary
Gregory “Greg” Heard Matthews, 67, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, in an Atlanta, Georgia hospital. He was born July 9, 1956, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Heard R. Matthews; his mother, Lula M. Favors-Matthews; and his brother, Mark D. Matthews. Greg is survived by his fiancé and life partner, Elayne Booker; his son, Gregory Mack; daughter, Angela (Brandon) Smith; grandchildren, Jayden, Justin, and his adopted grandson, Ashton Hickson; his aunt, Mildred Favors-Jones of Atlanta, GA; and his siblings, Andre (Karla) Matthews, James (Theresa) Matthews, Lydia Mechelle (Michael) Gant, and Antonio (Alextria); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; other loving relatives and devoted friends. Family was the most important aspect of Greg’s life. His big smile and boisterous laughter will be greatly missed. Greg will lie-in-state on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel.
