Gregory Stuart Malone's Obituary
Gregory (Greg) Stuart Malone, 62, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in CHI Memorial Hospital. Born on Tuesday, May 15, 1962, in Chattanooga's Carver Memorial Hospital, Greg was a beloved child — a source of joy and destined for greatness from the very start. At a young age, he confessed Christ as Lord over his life, and his faith remained a guiding force throughout his years.
Greg’s academic journey reflected his dedication to learning and growth. He was educated in Chattanooga’s public school system and was an honored member of Howard High School’s Class of 1980. During his time at Howard, he marched proudly in the Fabulous Marching 100 Band and served as captain of the drum section during the 1979–80 school year. In May 1980, his classmates voted him "Most Likely to Succeed," a title that reflected the strength, determination, and promise Greg carried throughout his life.
After high school, Greg enlisted in the United States Army. His time in the military was formative, teaching him discipline, problem-solving skills, and a strong sense of duty to his country and fellow soldiers. He successfully completed all required military training, demonstrating both commitment and capability. Greg was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and qualified as an expert with the .45-caliber pistol. His military service was both selfless and honorable.
Returning to Chattanooga, Greg continued to nurture his passion for music. He shared his drumming talents with various churches, bands, and musical ensembles across the community. His deep love for the drums became a cornerstone of his identity. With a strong sense of rhythm and unmatched energy, Greg would light up a room—his head bobbing, feet tapping, always in his signature Chuck Taylor All-Stars. His performances went beyond music; they became worship. Whether during church services, concerts, or community events, Greg’s drumming invited others to connect with the spirit of the moment.
Let us pause to thank God for the musical gifts He gave Greg, which Greg used joyfully and generously. His commitment to music and unwavering faith will continue to inspire everyone who knew him. His drumming wasn’t just heard—it was felt. It led others to stillness, worship, and faith. His legacy as a musician, soldier, and servant of God will live on in every life he touched.
Greg was employed at Brenntag South, a leading global distributor of chemicals and ingredients, where he was known for his reliability and strong work ethic. He found purpose and peace in his work and rarely missed a day over 33+ years—until his health began to decline in 2024.

Finley Sr. and Edith Finley; great-grandparents, Bennett Finley and Annie Maxey Williams; great-uncle, George Finley; great-aunts, Mary Williams, Sarah Clark, Iva Luke, Gertrude Ross, and Virginia Carter; and uncles, Bernard Finley Jr. and Harold Finley.
