Greffania Merilus' Obituary
Greffania Merilus, 23, of Cohutta, Georgia, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024. On July 20, 2020, a beautiful little girl, Greffania Merilus was born to parents Greffy Merilus and Charline Joseph in Petit-Guâve, Haiti. She was educated in the school system over there. Back at home in Haiti, she blessed her family with her laughter, joy, and infectious smile. Her love for children started at a young age, but specifically when her nephew John Carry was born. One of her lifelong dreams was to come to the United States. Last summer, she was afforded the opportunity to come. She had some many plans and desires for her new life here. Her main drive for life was her love for Jesus and family. She truly just wanted to establish herself here in order to continue blessing her family back at home. During those few months that we had the privilege of having her live with us in Georgia, Greffania has left an indelible mark on all of us. Her iconic wardrobe was never complete without a pair of sunglasses. She taught us how to be “real” Haitians and new creole words and music. Her love for music was quite astounding. She was definitely a “Femme Totale Capital!” Her delicious meals left us questioning our own cooking skills, or lack of. But as we ponder on those too few memories we cherish, we remember her heart. Greffania’s heart was one of the purest ones out there. It is not her acts of services that we will miss (though they were portrayed in abundance). Greffania baby, we miss your heart, joy, and laughter. As we celebrate her life, may it bring us comfort to know that we too can continue her legacy through our love for God and one another. Greffania is survived by her father, Greffy Merilus; her brother, Charlesson Merilus; her nephew JohnCarry Merilus; her grandmother; her cousins: Loudmy, Benitha Joseph, Henrichka Joseph, Sarah Joseph, Bindershka Joseph, Brielle Joseph, Gesnel Simon, Salnave Simon, Castel Simon and daughters, and Honaise; her cousins-in-law, Herndeur Joseph and Angelle Simon; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Greffania will lie-in-state on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at 9 a.m. at Collegedale Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Funeral service will follow at 10 a.m. with Daph Fenaud as the eulogist. Burial in Collegedale Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home.
