Gordan Bowman's Obituary
Gordon Lee “Po Devil” Bowman passed away Monday, February 12, 2024, at his residence. He was born on September 24, 1944, to Joe and Mamie Bowman. He attended Chattanooga Public Schools and later obtained his GED. “Po” also attended Chattanooga State Technical Community College. He served his country as an E3PFC in the United States Army. “Po” loved life, family, and friends. He was an avid tennis player and also played with the Racqueteers of Chattanooga. “Po” was also a talented pool player. He achieved Chattanooga Billiard’s Club highest ranking. “Po” was more than the average man; he was a great dad, granddad, brother, uncle, and friend. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Bowman, Mamie Lee Reynolds; brothers, James, Joe, and JP Bowman; sisters, Elizabeth, Jackson, Sarah, and Shirley Bowman. Survivors include his daughter, Coretta Bowman (Darryl) Owens; son, Michael Talley; grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Davis, Shunn Jackson, Miles Bush, Quinton Carter, Deontae Talley, Jermichael Bruell, Michael Talley II, Tiarra Talley, Alexis Strickland, and Jayla Talley; great-grandchildren, Anthony Taylor, Jr., Miles Bush, Jr., Arrielle Davis; brothers, Lee (Barbara) Bowman, Calvin (Bonnette) Bowman, McDaniel (Harriette) Bowman, Melvin (Vennesta) Bowman, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Essie (Clinton) Cosper, Rutha (James) Smith, Mary Woods, Brenda (Arthur) Garth, all of Chattanooga, Jacqueline Bowman, Angela Bowman, and Kathy Bowman, of Talledega, AL; special friend, Sandra Benford; and a host of other family, friends, and relatives. Gordon will lie-in-state on Thursday, February 22, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Pastor Ron B. Cook, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
