Glenda Jo Stewart's Obituary
Glenda Jo Stewart, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, June 12, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 3, 1942, in Cassandra, Georgia. She was educated in the public schools of Chattanooga. Glenda graduated from Howard High School class of 1959. She was a devoted and lifelong member of Greater Friendship Community Church, uniting under the leadership of Bishop Damian R. Wigfall, Sr. Glenda served as treasurer for many years. She was a Walmart Associate for 28 years before retiring in 2018. Glenda played an important role in raising money for CMN Children’s Miracle Network. She had a passion and felt compelled to help that organization for those children. Glenda enjoyed working word search puzzles, reading her Bible, spending time with her family, friends, and daily walks with her beloved pet Rufus. She grasped technology and her absolute biggest joy was video chatting with her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ruth Mae Shelton; brother, Gene Dale Evans; and sister, Maggie Williams. Survivors include her son, James Stewart of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, James (Kwan) Muirhead-Stewart of London, England; Tandya (Jonny) Franchini, Tene Stewart, Stone Stewart, all of Los Angeles, and Brionna Johnson of Orlando, FL,; great-grandchildren, Shenay Muirhead-Stewart, Nazario Muirhead-Stewart, and Hendrix Franchini; sisters, Syvella Mae White and Alma Harris, both of Chattanooga; childhood and long-life friend, Mary Green; colleagues at Walmart, Paulette Carter and Sharon Springs, neighbor, Maryann LeBerry; ex-daughter-in-law, Sharon Stewart; and good friend, Inez Green; a host of loving nephews; nieces; great-nephews; great-nieces; and other relatives and friends. Glenda will lie-in-state on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Friday, June 30, 2023 at 12 noon in the chapel with Bishop Damian R. Wigfall, Sr. as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
