George Cyril Carlisle's Obituary
George Cyril Carlisle, 74, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 13, 1950, in Summerville, Georgia to Freeman and Azzie Carlisle. George obeyed the gospel of Christ at an early age and had a burning desire to share with others this Good News. George also attended East Tennessee State School of Preaching and Mission in Knoxville, Tennessee, and later also graduated from Heritage Bible College in 1978 with a B.S. in Bible. He later obtained a B.S. degree from Covenant College in 2000. It was during his stay in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and attending the Scarboro Church of Christ, that he met Alyce L. Johnson who later became his wife on June 5, 1976. George began working full-time in ministry with the Westside Church of Christ in Vernon, Alabama in 1976. He later moved to Sumter, South Carolina to assist with local mission work, and he went on to help establish several other congregations in the area, including the Kingsbury Church of Christ, and the Manning Church of Christ. In 1993, George moved to Dalton, Georgia and once again focused his efforts on local missions, and eventually helped to establish the Church of Christ on Matilda Street. Throughout his time at Roper Corporation from 1994 to 2008, and everywhere afterwards, he remained steadfast in preaching the gospel of Christ to everyone who crossed his path, with a special heart for community connection outreach. George is preceded in death by his parents, Freeman and Azzie Carlisle; and brother, Freeman Carlisle Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 48 years, Alyce Johnson Carlisle; three sons and their wives, Gervis Cavan (Yelena) Carlisle of Acworth, GA, Gerald Caley (Kristina) Carlisle of Carlisle, IA, and Garret Corey (Enisha) Carlisle of Sugar Hill, GA; eight grandchildren, Gannon and Grifin, Mackenzie, Grasen, Casey, and Cyrie, Ariya and Caden; three sisters, Margaret (Melvin) Nelson, Molly (Willie) Hamilton, and Marie Offitt; and three brothers Arthur (Gloria) Carlisle, Samuel Carlisle, and Willie (Connie) Carlisle; a sister-in-law, Bernice Carlisle; many extended family members, friends, and a loving, worldwide Christian family. George will lie-in-state on Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 1:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Monday, June 24, 2024, at 12 noon in the chapel with his son, Dr. Corey Carlisle as the eulogist. Burial in Forest Hills Cemetery.
