Geoffrey Nicholas Turner's Obituary
Geoffrey Nicholas Turner, 64, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022, in a local hospice facility with his family by his side. He was born April 23, 1958 and educated in the Chattanooga public schools. Geoffrey is a graduate of Kirkman Technical High School where he played on the basketball team. He also studied at TSU and UTC. Geoffrey accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at New Monumental Baptist Church by his beloved Pastor, the late Dr. V. J. Caldwell. While at New Monumental, he was a member of the Youth Choir, the New Monumental Boys Quartet, the Church Orchestra, the New Monumental Boy Scouts, the Youth Usher Board, an active member of the Youth Department, and a charter member of the Chattanooga District Youth Choir. Geoffrey later became a dedicated, beloved member of the New Mount Sinai MBC, where he sang in the Choir and served on the hospitality committee. He was an avid Marvel comic book collector; a walking/talking sports encyclopedia, especially basketball, and talked about his favorite team, the Golden State Warriors, with anyone any chance he got. Geoffrey was preceded in death by his grandmother, Jennie Lee Turner; great aunt, Irene Crawford; stepfather, Edward Traylor; uncle, Clarence "Uncle Frank" Scaife; father-in-law, Rev. John H. Thornton, Jr.; mother-in-law, Rev. Priscilla Thornton; sister-in-law, Dana Tuggle and brother-in-law, Andre Steele. Geoffrey is survived by his loving wife, Kittie Turner; devoted mother, Ruby Traylor; stepsons, Cecil and Christopher Hanner; step- grandchildren, Zaria and Kelly Hanner; devoted aunt, Virginia Scaife; siblings/cousins, Rev. Kenneth F. Scaife (Celeste), Linda Scaife and Eric "Breeze" Scaife; brother-in-law, Michael Crawford, Sr.; sister-in-law, Karin Steele; nieces, Erica Sims of Antioch, TN, Karla Scaife of Nashville, TN, Erin (Kirk) Vickery, Tiffany Tuggle, Takiha Luedke of Lawrenceville, GA, and Zaneka Steele; nephews, Eric Scaife, Jr., Brian Kelley, Michael Crawford, Jr., and Andre Collier; a host of other family and friends including lifelong friends, Greg Sims, Judge Thomas Cox, Darryl Washington, both of Atlanta, GA, Jeffrey Holloway, Derrick "D.C." Carter of Indianapolis, IN, and Edfrem DeWayne Watkins of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, most of whom were members of The Force basketball team for which he was player/coach. Rev. Kenneth F. Scaife will serve as the eulogist.
