Frederick Douglas' Obituary
Fred Douglas, 89, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on January 26, 2026. He was born on May 21, 1936, to James Allen Douglas and Elizabeth Douglas. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a faithful member of New Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Leontine Douglas; his children, Karen D. Clay (George) of Chattanooga, Frederick Douglas Jr. (Linda) of Memphis, Sharen Douglas-Brown (Carl) of Indianapolis, Alfred Johnson (Dorothy) of Chattanooga, and Eric Tolliver of Los Angeles, California; his brothers, Jerry Douglas of Detroit and MacArthur Douglas of Ypsilanti; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his children, Archie Douglas, Mary Davis, and Deborah Pride (Frederick Pride); and his siblings, John Henry Douglas, James Douglas “Jim”, Alvin Douglas, Clinton Douglas, Edward Douglas, John Willie Douglas, Arthurine Douglas, Patricia Douglas, Belinda Douglas, Betty McCann, Lucy McGee, Rosie Johnson, Mary “Tina”, and Spencer. He will lie-in-state on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Sunday, February 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at New Holy Temple Cathedral Church of God in Christ with Pastor Paul Bonner, Jr. as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
