Evelina Bush was born June 26, 1964, in Chattanooga Tennessee. She departed this earthly life on October 4, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Gladys Goree Simpson and Verlin Smith. She was educated in Chattanooga Public School and was a graduate of Brainerd High School C/O 1982. Evelina was a member of Miracle Missionary Baptist Church. She was known for enjoying life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, bringing a light even on the darkest day, her personality and smile is what people loved the most. She was definitely the life of the party; the party really didn't start until she arrived. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Demetrias Lashaun Johnson “Buda”; mother, Gladys Goree Simpson; father, Verlin Smith; grandmother, Emma Dunnigan-Goree; grandfather, Rufus Goree Sr; uncle, Rufus Goree Jr; aunts, Virginia Brooks and Georgia Williams Woods (Aunt Sweet); sisters, Ann Elizabeth Brown, Alice Marie Carroll, Emma Long; brother, Thomas Jerome Simpson; nephews, Roland Simpson and Charles Hinton. She leaves to cherish her memories is her son, Kelly Lorenzo Byrd III; grandson, Markel Byrd; special friend, Reginald Knight; sisters, Ellen Johnson, Yvonne Daniels, Linda Slayton Lindsey, Patricia Robinson (Samuel Coleman), and Louvina Smith (Roy Hinton Jr); brothers, Reuben (Michelle) Simpson and Darryl Simpson Willingham; 14 nieces, Evelyn, Cassandra (Bron), Charlene, Rosonia (Christopher), Wendy, Felicia, Andrea, Tiffany, Demetria (John), April, Jasmine, Patrice, Shayla, Angel, Antoniece, and April; seven nephews, Anthony, Lemont, Antonio, Thomas, Jr., Kevin, Lil Rudy and Correll; great-nieces, Romitchus, Tyshera, Mary, Chantella, Rosonia, Jamesha, Dajai, Neya, Phylicia, Aisha, Barronisha, Breyanna, Daisha, Comora, Tania, Anyila, Kalisha, Makeleny, Jameyla, Jainanna, and Jeigh; great-nephews, Anthony, Jr., Lamont, Lorenzo, Darrius, Randall, Jeremy, LaTrail, Jacobe, Harold, Demetrius, Tyree, Daniel, Kevin, Kacey, Cy’rie, Ayden Henry, Dejaune, Marcus, Quentin, Carlton and Victor, and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. Evelina will lie-in-state on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Minister Melvin Goree as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, October 28, 2024, at 12 noon in Forest Hills cemetery.
