Ethel Mae Brown's Obituary
Ethel Mae Bowens Brown, 72, of Chattanooga, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in a local hospital. She was born on September 3, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Alf Wright and Gladys Bowens. Ethel was educated in the Chattanooga Public Schools and graduated from Riverside High School. She was a member of Real Life Ministries. Ethel was employed by Memorial Hospital and Parkridge Hospital as a Surgical Instrument Tech for 35 years and retired in 2005. She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion of over 50 years, Jim V. Brown, II; son, Jamichael Brown; sisters, Shirley Bowens and Geraldine Harris-Campbell; and grandson, D. Taylor Wooten. Survivors include her children; Jim V. (Annette) Brown, III, Pastor Shauna (Ernest Woodruff) Wooten, and Tenika (Ira) Miller; grandchildren, Kiara Torrey, Domnique Torrey, Amya Brown, Jamichael Brown, Jr., Janiya Brown, Trey Officer, Tavern Hughes, and Lena Bryant; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny (Ann) Bowens; sisters, Fannie (Willie) Penn and Margie Ross; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives; best friend, Teresa Anne Bridges and other friends. Ethel will lie-in-state on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Shauna Wooten as the eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
