Essie Rosetta Akins' Obituary
Essie Rosetta Trammell Akins, 100, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at her residence. She was born April 14, 1923 in Lafayette, Georgia to Addie Trammell Palmore and Taylor Tims. Essie attended schools in Georgia and was limited to attending on through the 9th grade. Though limited in her education, she was not limited in her knowledge and wisdom. She was an avid reader and gained much knowledge by doing so. Essie married Henry Nathaniel Akins and of this union she had three sons, Charles Henry Akins, Kenneth Lebron Akins, and Thomas Theodore Akins. Essie and her family were faithful members at the East Third Street Church of Christ for many years before uniting with Alton Park Church of Christ in 1976, where she remained until her health failed. Essie was an expert seamstress and made some of the most detailed and beautiful quilts ever seen. She loved cross stitch, macrame, and gardening. Essie surely loved the Lord and demonstrated this in the way she lived and served. Essie received a Certificate of Completion from Human Services of Chattanooga in October 2001. She would go on to receive a plaque for dedicated service to The Alton Park Child Development Center from 2005-2006. Essie worked at Hutcheson Medical Center for 16 years and was recognized for her dedicated service from January 10, 1979 to December 2, 1995. Essie leaves to cherish her memory son, Charles Henry (Pat) Akins; grandchildren, Terence “CJ” (Tisha) Akins, Demarcus “Bigman” Akins, Daphane Kelley (Reynold) Ram, Territta Welles, Zayden Akins, Cameryn Akins, Chandie Carter, Charlton Carter, Amerie Pierce, Kashton Ball, Kacey Boggus, Ta’liese Welles, and Brya Welles; several nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
