Erleen Jones Johnson's Obituary
Erleen Jones Johnson, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, in a local hospital. She was born September 7, 1951, to the late John H. and Lillian Mae Wheelous, Sr. in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a faithful member of St. Mary C.M.E. Church, where she served on the Usher Board. Erleen was a graduate of the Howard High School Class of 1970. After graduating she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She returned to Chattanooga and worked for the Glass Company and after retiring from Tennessee American Water Company, she worked for BFI for several years. In her spare time, Erleen played softball, where she received several trophies, and participated on a bowling team. She enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to music. Erleen was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Lillian Mae Wheelous; sister, Earnestine Townsend; and brothers, Jerry Heard and Kenneth Wheelous. She leaves to cherish her memory a husband, Howard Johnson; a daughter, Erica Jones; two grandchildren, Jarius and Micah Ware; stepchildren, Nina Johnson and Howard Cordell Johnson; sisters, Annette Hendricks, Peggy Daniel of Atlanta, GA, and Lillian (Tony) Sims of Knoxville, TN; and brother, John (Tammy) Wheelous, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Martha Ann Thirkill, Rebecca, Patricia, and Mary Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Wallace and Nathaniel Johnson; goddaughters, Tamara Hyatt, Tawana Robinson, and Tamara Puckett; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Erleen will lie-in-state on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 12 noon in the chapel with Pastor Gibson Sims, Jr. as the Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
