Emily Jean Lewis' Obituary
Emily Jean Lewis, 79, of Chattanooga, transitioned from this life to her eternal rest on Friday, August 15, 2025, in a local healthcare facility. She was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduated from Howard High School in 1964. She then went on to attend college at Tennessee State University and Chattanooga City College.
At an early age Emily accepted Jesus Christ and was blessed with a ministering spirit. She would help anyone in need, even in her suffering, she would glorify God. Due to her illness, she lost her natural ability to see, but had spiritual eyes and held fast to the end of her life. She prayed without casing for others. Her family loved her and will miss her encouragement in the word of God. She realized until her last days that only what we do for Jesus will last an Eternity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Winston Lewis and Susie Henderson Lewis; her sister, Mary Lewis; and her son, Terry Christopher Lewis.
Survivors include her brother, Edward (Felicia) Lewis; her sister, Wanda Ann Lewis Dillard; and three nieces, Erica Simone Lewis, Angela Michele Lewis, and Latarsha Nichelle Lewis Brady.
She also leaves to cherish her memory four great-nephews, Cadarius Jujuan Lewis Poole, Jujuan Trimal Lewis, Lorenzo Alexander Lewis, and Ethan Michael Lewis; and two great-nieces, Desiree Mitchell and Gabrielle Deshay Brady. She is also survived by a host of great nephews and nieces as well as family and friends.
Emily will lie-in-state on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home and then at 1 p.m. at Sharon Pentecostal Deliverance Church of God. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with Elder Sydnor as the Eulogist. Burial in Garmany Cemetery in Kensington, Georgia.
