Elaine Toney Hill's Obituary
Elaine Toney Hill, 71, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her residence. She was one of 11 children born to the late Emeritus Harris Toney and Marie C. Toney in Triana, Alabama on May 10, 1951. Elaine confessed religion at an early age at Gospel Lighthouse in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was a graduate of Riverside High School, class of ’69 with honors and a proud Trojan Majorette. Elaine was united in marriage with Frank Hill on August 5, 1980, where they share two daughters. She later became a member of Christian Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church of America, where she served as an elder. She served in integral roles with the local state and national levels of the Cumberland Presbyterian. Elaine started her career at Chattanooga State in March of 1978 and has served in many areas of the college, beginning in the Admissions Office and ending in the Academic Affairs Division as Coordinator of Academic Compliance. Elaine was the recipient of several awards including The Debbie Waggoner-Above and Beyond Award, Eye of The Tiger Award, and The Chatty Award. After serving students for 42 years, Elaine retired December 31, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emeritus Harris and Marie C. Toney; brother, Harris Eugene Toney. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Frank A. Hill; daughters, Dionne (Lamont) Patterson and Maiya (Corey) Mosley, both of Chattanooga; (5 grandchildren), grandsons, Cody Dennis and Zipporian Patterson; granddaughters, Zipporah Patterson, Zoé Young, and Demi Mosley; brothers, Calvin (Judy) Toney, Gregory (Audrey) Toney, Donald (Pamela) Toney, Ardis Toney, Danny (Donna) Toney, and Cedric (Venita) Toney; sisters, Barbara Johnson, Teresa (Lee) Merrell, Renee (Tony) Kennebrew, and Diane (Albert) Grimes, all of Chattanooga; a host of aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. Dr. Mitchell Walker will be the eulogist. In lieu of flowers, Elaine’s family is asking for donations to the Elaine Toney Hill Scholarship. www.chattanoogastate.edu/donate.
