Edwin Levern Ervin's Obituary
Edwin Levern Ervin, 52, formerly of Chattanooga, departed this life suddenly on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in a Stockbridge, Georgia hospital. He was born on February 18, 1970, in Chattanooga, Tennessee to Linda Johnson-Ervin and the late James Ervin, Sr. Edwin gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was raised by his beloved mother and his stepfather, Bradlon Johnson, who made a career in the military. Among some of the places he lived growing up were San Diego, California, and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. He graduated from high school at Camp LeJeune where he was a star basketball player. The family moved to Atlanta upon his father’s retirement, and Edwin made the decision to enter the military. This was the beginning of his 30-year career in the Army. During his military career, he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in Kuwait, Iraq, Fort Sill, Fort Jackson, Korea, and Germany. While in the military he was employed with ECS 43 as Maintenance Shop Foreman, which he continued after his military duty. He received many accolades and awards throughout his career such as The Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star (2nd Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal w/Campaign Star, and Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon. He served his country with dignity and respect. He received an honorable discharge and retired from the military on March 16, 2020. Edwin continued his education at Grantham University, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration. He was a member of the Street Riders Motorcycle Club where he served as the Co-Founder and Treasurer; he was well loved and affectionately known as “Bigg Erv.” Edwin absolutely loved fashion; you hardly ever saw him in the same pair of shoes twice. His favorite past times were spending time with family (especially his mother) and friends, listening to music, vacationing, and riding his Harley Davidson. Edwin was preceded in death by his father, James Ervin, Sr; grandparents, Charlie Lu Johnson, Davis Brooks, Dock Ervin, Ethelena Daniels, James and Bettye Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother and stepfather, Bradlon and Linda Johnson; his brother, James (Reva) Ervin, Jr.; cousin/brother, Todd Johnson; daughters, Mia (Fred) Jeffcoat, Kavica Brown, and Tenisha Kimberly; granddaughter, Tania Kimberly; nieces, Keonte Hansford, Jayla Clark, and Antoinette (Justin) Simpson; nephews, James Ervin, III, Terrance Dudley, Jordan Clark, and Edwin C. Ervin; and a host of aunts; uncles; cousins; and friends. Minister Carol Jones will be the eulogist.
