Dorothy Mitchell's Obituary
Dorothy Mae Mitchell, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025, at her residence. She was a 1955 graduate of Sumpter County Training School. Dorothy was employed by Dixie Yarns and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of New Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a former member of the Gospel Choir and the Sunday School Department.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Mitchell, Sr.; daughter, Monica Denise Mitchell; and parents, Vember and Leona Cross.
Survivors include her son, Howard Mitchell, Jr.; daughters, Casundra Mitchell and Tammy Mitchell, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Darius Mitchell of Fayetteville, NC and Kevin Staton, Jr. of Chattanooga; special cousin, Joe Green of Chattanooga; dear friends, Norma Jean Hughley, Hazel Adair, Pat White, Joyce Sharp, Glenda McCane, Olivia Humphrey, and Gailton Bailey.
Dorothy will lie-in-state on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 12 noon in the Chapel with Pastor Terrance Hannah as the Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
