Pastor Dexter Lorenzo Cummings' Obituary
Pastor Dexter L. Cummings departed his earthly home on Sunday, January 7, 2024, in a local hospital. He was born on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1975, to Dexter and Mary Cummings. He was called into the ministry at the age of 18 years old. He was a graduate of Howard High School, class of 1993. He worked as a contractor for many years in the tri-state area and Atlanta, Georgia.
Dexter was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reverend Joe Q. Millsaps and Mary L. Millsaps, Percy and Annette Copeland; sister, Alessandrea (Sandy) Cummings; brother, Michael Wilkes; and a host of aunts and uncles. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Patricia L. Cummings; son, Cordaro (Mariah) Cummings of Harrison, TN; daughters, Chakia Copeland, Cheywan Copeland, Kayla Hass, Kiana Copeland of Chattanooga, TN, Jasmin Copeland of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren, Noah, Abiah, Shytracia, Gabby, ShaRiyah, Bonnie, Travis; mother, Mary I. Millsaps; father, Dexter Cummings, who recently passed away; brother, Gerald (Squeaky) Cummings; aunt, Pastor Brenda Millsaps; uncle, Mickey Cummings of Chattanooga, TN; and a host of other beloved family and friends. Dexter will lie-in-state on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Mr. Cordaro Cummings as the eulogist. Burial on Monday, January 22, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery.
