Delphine “Phiney” Smith, 63, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021 in a local hospital. She was a 1975 graduate of Howard High School. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Coltrese Reese; grandmother, Laura Davis; brothers, Ricky Smith and Dennis Smith; uncle, Walter Davis; nephew, LeDale Lyle; ex-husband, Gregory Appleberry, Sr. Survivors include her sons, Gregory Appleberry, Jr. and Charles Russell; daughters, Kawanna (Thomas) Starry, Cherrie Appleberry, and Sharon Welch; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; mother, Ruby Smith; brothers, Todd (Kim) Smith, LaWarren (Cheryl) Smith, Winfred (Gwen) Davis; sisters, Wanda Faye (David Lee) Lyle, Denise Deere, Cassandra Jefferson, Angela (James) Westmoreland, Tanza Freeman, and Sharon Renee (Janice) Sanford; life-long friends, Ruth Thomas, Alvin Partridge, and Horace Reese, all of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
