Debra V Norris' Obituary
Debra Veron Norris, 72, formerly of Chattanooga, left this world after a long battle with health issues on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in a hospice facility in Nashville, Tennessee. She was born on June 30, 1953, to parents NeVaughn and Evelyn Norris. After graduating from Riverside High School in 1971, she later found her passion in caring for others. Following in her mother's footsteps, she set out to pursue a degree in nursing. Debra studied hard and earned her degree from the Chattanooga School of Practical Nursing, where she began a life-long career.
During her extensive years of service, Debra worked at a number of companies including Vanderbilt University Medical Center, DeBerry Special Needs facility and State of Tennessee Department of Corrections, where she retired after many years of dedicated tenure. Debra was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church of Antioch, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Norris; father, NeVaughn Norris; and grandson, Nehemiah Jai'vyon Johnson. She is succeeded by her loving son, Edward (Shondella) Johnson; caring grandchildren, Edward Siyani (Jaizon) Johnson, LeFrank Monte' Johnson, Dalon Wanya Johnson, Mytasia Rae'shon Johnson, Montrell Lejuan Johnson (mother, Marvenia), and Jeremiah Tai'vyon Johnson; devoted sisters, Teralene (David) Westfield and Darlane Norris; dedicated brothers, Michael (Pom) Norris and David (Joyce) Norris; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
Debra will lie-in-state on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Hope City Church. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon at the church with Pastor Ciby Thomas as the Eulogist. Burial in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home of Chattanooga, Inc.
