David Dewayne Looney Sr.'s Obituary
David Dewayne Looney, Sr. was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 3, 1966, to the late Willie Looney Sr and Bertha Lee Looney. He was preceded in death by his son David 'DJ' Dewayne Looney, Jr. David was a dedicated, accomplished individual who made significant contributions throughout his life. He graduated from Chattanooga High School in the Class of 1984. After graduation, he began his distinguished career in the restaurant industry marked by his dedication and passion for his work. He was known for his commitment to excellence and his ability to inspire those around him. Throughout his career, David held various positions, including his last one at P. F. Chang's China Bistro for the last 26 years. His skills and leadership were acknowledged at each stop. He was a respected professional who made a lasting impact in his field. David was known for his commitment to his family and his community. He was a family man who loved his wife, children and most especially his five grandchildren. He was a supportive friend and a respected member of his community. His dedication to his work and his passion for helping others were evident in everything he did. David's legacy will be carried on by his wife of 38 years, Sarah Smith Looney, his daughters and their spouses DeAnna (Aaron) Mitchell and Ashlee (Jonathan) Williams of Birmingham AL, the ones he adored the most — his grandchildren Ava, Mya, and AJ Mitchell of Birmingham, AL, his heavenly angel grandson, JT "Half Pint" Williams and Aubree Willams of Birmingham AL, his father-in-law who he loved like a father and was his best friend, Ralph Smith, sisters and brother in laws Sarah (Jerome) Matthews and Maudell (Doug) Foster of Chattanooga, TN, his brother and sister in law George (Carolyn) Bennett, Eugene, OR, his sister in laws Sylvia Smith, Hampton GA, Kelley Smith and Alee (Julio) Lopez, of Chattanooga, TN, Barbara Looney, of Katy, TX; brother in laws Alex Smith, Chattanooga, TN, Shawn (Anita) McClesky of Bryant, AL and Sheman McClesky of New Orleans, LA and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He never met a strange and had many that he called a friend, but he was especially close to his friend George Jackson of Birmingham, AL. He had many unique qualities that made him the special person that he was - from giving the ones he loved the perfect nickname, to his ability to tell a story in a way that only he could, to anticipating your needs sometimes even before you knew and making sure that you were taken care of. He was always looking to help and was someone you could always depend on to be there. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories he created with his loved ones. He will lie-in-state on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel. Burial in Highland Memorial Gardens.
