Cynthia Martin's Obituary
Cynthia Louise Martin, 75, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, December 12, 2022, in a local hospital. She is a 1966 graduate of Hill-High High School. She attended Berea College. Cynthia was a member of Rock Island Baptist Church where she was a Missionary, served on the Mother’s Board, Usher Board, Hospitality Committee, and Women’s Ministry. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Cynthia was preceded in death by her father, James Baxter, Sr.; mother, Juanita W. Baxter Canada; brother, James Baxter, Jr. and Herbert C. Canada, Jr.; and grandmother, Hattie Beetles. Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Johnny Wayne Martin; daughters, Audrey Lawrence of Chattanooga, Deborah Lawrence of Fort Oglethorpe, GA, and Connie (Jeffery) Davis of Chattanooga; stepchildren, Adelaide Martin, Rose Martin, and Derrick Brown; grandson, Montrace Lawrence of Nashville, TN who was reared as a son; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Andre (Veronica) Baxter of Birmingham, AL, Charles (Stephanie) Baxter of Chattanooga, Michael (Jeanette) Baxter of Anniston, AL, and Ernie Canada of Chattanooga; sisters, Gladys Elaine (Tracy) Turner, Lottie “KoKo” Stamper, and Wanda Jean (Clark) Canada, all of Chattanooga; goddaughter, Filisity “FeFe” Shipman of Huntsville, AL; brothers-in-law, Robert (Renee) Ballard, Jerry (Veronica) Martin, and William Martin; a host of nieces; nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Pastor Ronald B. Cook, Sr. will serve as the eulogist.
