Connie M. Sanderfur-Griggs' Obituary
Connie Mae Sanderfur Griggs, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, after a long period of declining health, in the Hospice Care Center. She was born October 30, 1945, to Solomon and Ida Sanderfur in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At a young age, Connie attended Orchard Knob Elementary and Jr. High School. She graduated from Howard High School in 1963, where she served as a band majorette. She graduated from A&M University where she earned a degree in Education. She was employed by the Hamilton County School System where she enjoyed teaching in elementary schools for over 25 years.
Connie had a passion for cooking and was delighted to share her meals with others. Wherever she lived she was surrounded by plants, and she loved sharing her plants with others and working in her vegetable garden. She loved attending and volunteering at Cedine Bible camp in the summers. Connie enjoyed traveling with the seniors and was an avid reader of mystery books and enjoyed playing cards.
Connie attended New City Fellowship where she was very active in preparing the closing meal of Black History Month. She was also active in the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed living life to the fullest.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Solomon Sanderfur; four brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include her three sisters, Hattie M. Benn, Ervina Jarret, and Janis Upton; her four sons, Derrick of NC, Damon, David, both of Chattanooga, and Daryl of Oregon; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Chris Turner as the Eulogist.
