Clyde Stevenson's Obituary
Clyde Stevenson, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025, at his residence. He was born January 10, 1931, in Landersville, Alabama to the late Claude Craften Stevenson and Lassie Beatrice Davis Stevenson. He retired from U.S. Pipe Foundry after 35 years of service. After his retirement, he enjoyed working outside fixing on his truck and things around the house, riding his lawn mower, gardening, baking cakes, making his famous pepper sauce and cough syrup, as well as fishing.
Clyde was a member of Christian Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church, under the leadership of the late Emeritus Harris Toney and continued to serve under the leadership of Pastor Eric K. Jones. He sang in the mass and male choirs and was a part of several church ministries. He loved his church.
His craftmanship and ingenuity can be seen, not only throughout the church, but through the city of Chattanooga. He enjoyed working with S & F Painting, owned by his eldest son, Samuel. Clyde was always quick to share his knowledge and helping hands when needed. His heart was one of pure gold.
Clyde was preceded in death by his son, Clyde V. Stevenson; and daughter, Angelia "Candy" Stevenson. He leaves to cherish his memories forever, his devoted wife of 75 years, Lucille Hampton-Stevenson; children, Samuel (Frances) Stevenson, Deborah Joyce (Lee) Grimes, Bruce Stevenson, and LaToya "Nickie" Stevenson; granddaughter/daughter, Alexis J. Eaton; and honorary daughter, Maureen "Gail" Carter, all of Chattanooga; brother, Collis Hansel Stevenson of Decatur, AL; very special friend and family, Lee "Butch" Merrill and Sylvester "Poochie" Hampton, both of Chattanooga; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.
Clyde will lie-in-state on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
