Clifford Lonneus Gordon “Lonnie”, 58, of Nashville, Tennessee went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 19, 2024, while teaching abroad in Brazil, South America. He was born on December 9, 1965, in Valdosta, GA. to Harold Douglas Gordon, Sr. and Sandra Faye Gordon. He was raised in Chattanooga, TN, and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1984. Clifford served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, then worked in the healthcare field for several years. Clifford earned an Associate of Science degree in art from Chattanooga State, a Bachelor of Science degree in art from Tennessee State University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in studio art from Memphis College of Art. He was an Associate Professor at Columbia State Community College. He taught various art classes such as Visual Arts, Art History, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, and Foundation Studio. Clifford was a talented accomplished artist who shared his passion for art by conducting exhibitions throughout the southern region. He was known for producing amazing collages and paintings to draw viewers into a world informed by various ideas, traditions, and modern discourses. Clifford’s talents did not stop with the arts, he was a self-taught musician, where he taught himself to play guitar and piano. Through his passion for music, Clifford began playing and ministering through music at various churches. Clifford was a member of Faith Unlimited Christian Ministry under the leadership of the late Pastor David Hill. His love for praise and worship could be felt during any service. When ministering Clifford often shared that praise and worship begin when you have a true relationship with Christ. He encouraged others to begin the journey to strengthen their relationship with Christ. He enjoyed traveling to Brazil and teaching himself to speak Portuguese, where he wanted to immerse himself in the culture and not be viewed as just a tourist. He will truly be missed by his family, friends, and students. Clifford was preceded in death by his sister, Yonata Kael Gordon, and father-in-law, Elmer Lee Mayes.
