Claybrook Adams' Obituary
Claybrook Asbery Adams, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at his residence. It was only 46 days after his mother’s homegoing and 20 days after his 78th birthday. He was born on December 11, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a 1966 graduate of Riverside High School and a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Claybrook accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at the age of 76. He was a 20-year Air Force Veteran and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a generous friend and possessed an uncanny or strange ability to connect with anyone he met. He was a very friendly person with a profound sense of humor. Claybrook loved to reminisce about “back in the day” with his brother and friends.
Claybrook was an avid movie enthusiast with horror and classic being his favorite. He was also passionate about music. He could drink a gallon of milk while listening to his favorite artists. This past October we took a spur of the moment trip to his favorite place, Gatlinburg. He loved the rustic cabins and the beautiful mountain views. Little did we know this would be our last trip together.
Claybrook was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Adams and Carrie Beck; grandparents, Walter and Mary Towns; and brothers, Leroy A. Beck Jr., Danny R. Beck, and Eric A. Colen.
Cherishing his memories include his son, Claybrook Asbery Adams, Jr. of Fayetteville, NC, his former wife, Marvis Douglas Adams; sister, Paula B. Leath; brother, Maynard W. Beck; sister-in-law, Deborah Colen; brother-in-law, John Leath; nephews, Korlon (Quantilia) of Atlanta, GA, Christopher (Phobe) of Dallas, TX, Marcus, Derrick, and Eric Jr.; nieces, Shanika (Ardis), JaMia (DePriest), Talia, Dessalyn, and Erica; several great-nephews and nieces who he loved dearly; cousins, Sharon Lyle Johnson and family, Andre Westfield and family, extended family, Mark and Kimberly Colen; dear helpful friend, Latoya Butler who he loved like a daughter; dear friend Theodore “Teddy” Jackson, and a host of cousins and close friends.
He will lie-in-state on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Alonzo Noble as the Eulogist. Burial on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
