Charles Edward Reeves' Obituary
Mr. Charles Edward Reeves, 80, formerly of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Hospice of Chattanooga in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was born May 24, 1944, in Villa Rica, Georgia. Charles was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories. He was known for his boldness in the Lord, the love for God, and God’s people. Charles attended Orchard Knob Elementary, Orchard Knob Jr. High School, and graduated from Riverside High School. He received his license in Cosmetology.
Charles married Barbara A. Jackson and were blessed with two children. He was inducted into the United States Army and served six years which included a tour in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge at the end of his service time. Charles was a professional bowler, and bowled in many states. The Chattanooga Times wrote an article about him being one of the 1,265 to top the charts in the Hointe Tournament, in 1985. Later in life, Charles remarried Angie Walker and they moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He was employed by Pep Boys until his retirement.
Charles became a worshipper of God at the First Baptist Church of Atlanta, Georgia and sang in the choir. He formed a group called The Mighty Coachmen Band with his friends. He loved his church. Charles loved people and always helped others. He shared the word of God through witnessing, praying, and passing out In Touch pamphlets. He had a prayer room, with a list of names of people for whom he often prayed.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Frank Reid and Ollie P. Cameron-Reeves; grandparents, Mamie Lou Streeter and Vanice Streeter; and brother, Clearence Reeves. Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Baker of Chattanooga, Gary (Decia) Moore of Conyers, GA, and Andre (Demetria) Bolden of Aurora, CO; daughters, Deborah Jackson and Charlene King, both of Cleveland, OH; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Cross of Morton, PA; Mamie Austin, Carolyn M. Walker, and Linda (Jeremiah) McFarland, all of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Louise Reeves of Chattanooga; several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Charles is gone, but not forgotten. His legacy lingers around those who know and love him, as they can still hear him say, “Raise your right hand to God. Get down on your knees and get locked in with God and Jesus. He’s coming back soon.” Charles will lie-in-state on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 12:30-5:00 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Atlanta, with Dr. Matthew Slemp as the Eulogist. DUE TO THE WEATHER, BURIAL HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED. Burial will be Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
