Charles William Davis, III's Obituary
Charles William Davis, III, 62, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, in a local hospital. He was born on December 16, 1962, in Lexington, KY, to Charles William Davis, Jr. and Marion Reed Davis. Growing up in Fort Knox, KY, he was known as a standout athlete, especially on the football field. As a star player for Fort Knox High, he earned the respect and admiration of coaches, teammates, and fans alike. He graduated with the class of 1980.
Following high school, he joined the National Guard, which he served from 1984 to 2004. He was a former member of Apache Troop 1/278 in Cleveland, TN, where he achieved a grade of E04. He also served as a tank crewman under Jimmy Kimbler’s vehicle, who fondly recalled Charles saying, “I got your back if you got my front.” Alongside his service to the National Guard, Charles also devoted 40 years to Sisken Steel as a machine operator.
Charles was a member of God in Christ ministries. He was known as a gentle giant, always taking care of others before he cared for himself. Most important of all, Charles loved his kids, his grandkids, and his entire family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davis; father, Charles W. Davis, Jr.; granddaughter, Angel Davis; and niece, London Collier. Those left to cherish his memories include his sons, James Davis and Danstan Davis, both of Chattanoga; daughter, Bria (Kemario) Davis-Serinash, of Chattanoga; 3 grandchildren, Janiya Davis, Nicholas Davis, and Journey Davis; one great-grandchild on the way, Jasmine; mother, Marion Davis; sister, Orean Collier.
Charles will lie-in-state on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11:30 a.m. with Mr. Nathaniel Jackson as Eulogist. Burial in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
